FUJIFILM Announces New FUJINON XF18mmF1.4

Today Fuji announced the Fujinon XF 18mm F1.4. Well if that don’t keep the bokeh fanclub happy nothing will. Fuji makes som amazing glass in my opinion, so to see a new wide angle lens come out with a fixed focal length and a baddass f1.4 is exciting for the Fuji crew. Some stand out features include

  • Three aspherical lenses and one ED lens
  • Minimal focal distance of just 11mm
  • Internal autofocus system, driven by a powerful linear motor
  • Focus from MOD to infinity in as quickly as 0.25 seconds
  • Weather resistant seals

These are all impressive and I am really looking forward to getting this badboy on deck so we can test it out. Especially given the focal distance and light weight design of just 370 grams. It also measures just over 7.5cm long so this piece of kit is going to fit nicely in any camera bag whether its a sling or a full camera backpack.

This lens is also going to find itself being used across most situations whether its weddings, street photography, landscapes or portraits. The autofocus is going to be killer for hitting those portraits and getting the eye dead on focus.

The low aperture is going to offer some real solutions for low light shooting and getting as much light as possible without having to dig to deep into the ISO. This is going to work well across street photography and portraits or even weddings where light is always a challenge.

The X series is one of the best for compact and reliable gear

The XF 18mm F1.4 is set to be released in early May and is a 35mm equivalnt of 27mm. The price will launch at $1749 and a lens hood can be purchased separately for $99 bucks (bit cheeky – should be thrown in at this price)
