Oppo are always looking for an edge and i would say normally deliver on this. Do they meet their own standard on the A74 5G? Let’s find out,

And the most impressive spec is the price, you get all this for $499AU at launch. Cheaper already in some places, Now the build is very comfortable, it surprises me that some companies still make phones that are not nice to hold. The A74 5G is a pleasure to hold, the perfect size if you ask me. Plastic back and gorilla glass on the front it’s a nice weight as well at 190 grams. The only 2 small issues I had were, fingerprint scanner on the side??? The camera hump is a bit sharp to touch however with a case on and face unlock on neither of these matters.
Software and Performance – Here the Snapdragon 480 5G, 6GB ram, andreno 619 and Android 11 Make for a nice balance of battery life and performance. Android 11 is refreshing and nice to see here and hopefully we see a quick upgrade to Android 12 when it drops soon. Day to day use for me has been a simple and enjoyable experience, what it should be really. Some basic gaming has been easy on the A74 and the 90hz refresh rate makes this a pleasant experience, I played Asphalt 9, Leos Fortune and PubG. No issues with any performance. I did notice that google feed is now missing on the Android 11 on the A74 5G. The Oppo UI software is very good, however you never know what’s going to be added or missing.
Battery – The battery life is amazing and always is with every Oppo phone i have ever used. It’s actually hard to use up the battery in 2 days for most users. I was getting 2 days and i’m a psycho when it comes to phone use. Oppo makes it easy to optimize for performance or battery life. Depending on your wishes. There is Zero disappointment here.
Camera – The camera has quite a few features and those being

- 16mp front facing
- 1080 30fps
The pics I took were Clear, sharp, showed balance with saturation and delivered to my expectation. The shutter is fast and offers no delay. The AI mode worked each time and did not appear to offer any confusion. Low light was passable and sat right in the price range for expectations. Yes there was grain in low light but this is very much expected. The video is the real let down here with 1080p 30fps being the highest on offer. and leaves the creative types left a little wanting. The 1080p video is ok and will get the job done for capturing memories and sharing on social media.
Connectivity – 5G is all the rage however the terrible carriers are holding this up. We get 5g here and the speeds will depend on the carrier. We also get USB type C, headphone jack, bluetooth 5.1 and for GPS we get Glonass, GPS and Beidou.
Overall the A74 5G is a very capable device and the price makes it even more attractive. This device offers what the big players can’t and that is value for money.
