Over the years I have watched ColorOS morph from an apple copy to a hybrid looking mix of Android and Apple. Eventually the last couple of years really showing its own personality and character. Well now it’s truly its own. With ColorOS 12
Inclusive – Now with over 440 million users worldwide and covering over 68 countries the all new ColorOS 12has been described as inclusive, customisable and clean. The inclusive comes from the design being palatable to different regions and cultures.
Over the years problems with lag and stutters in day to day operations of Oppo devices have been slowly subsiding but now even Oppo are claiming that Color OS 12 will decrease lag by decreasing memory occupation by up to 30% and also using 20% less power. This coupled with some of the fasting charging ive seen from a smartphone manufacturer equals awesome.
Privacy – is a buzzword these days especially from the tech review community. We get more privacy here with approximate location services, privacy dashboards and indicators to let you know when the mic and camera are being used along with system favourites like private safe, private system and app lock. Then there is this “OPPO guarantees that user data stays in the nearby servers, which is saved in a non-plain text format and is transmitted using a proprietary protocol.”
Focus on Development – ColorOS 12has been very Android focused and it’s evident in the Wallpaper-based Theming system in Material You, which you would be able to find a similar self-developed feature in previous ColorOS 12 editions. Another example of this is the App Cloner from ColorOS that now features in Android 12. Oppo is making strong progress and is leading the way here, This is comes across with the free camera SDKs covering OPPO’s most advantageous camera capabilities – including Ultra Steady Video Shooting, HDR, Super Wide-Angle, and more – OPPO has further opened its HyperBoost, Color Vision Enhancement to benefit Android app developers and enhance the Android ecosystem.
In the Aussie market we can expect to see the rollout take this timeline

- First Half of 2022: Find X3 Neo, Find X3 Lite, Find X2 Pro, FInd X2 Neo, Find X2 Lite, Reno4 5g, Reno4 Pro 5G, Reno4 Z 5G, Reno 10x Zoom, A94 5G, A74 5G
- Second Half of 2022: A74, A53, A53s, A16s, A54s
This is good news and i personally look forward to using more Oppo devices as their software matures more over time.
